Like most small businesses, our company receives many requests each year for financial support. These come from community groups, non-profits, schools, and other area organizations. Cheney Insurance has been a member of the Damariscotta business community for many years. A lot of people know us personally, and it is important to spend enough time to carefully evaluate each request we receive. Our employees, and our companies, are committed to supporting the communities we serve and live in.
I have been a member of The Cheney Companies Financial Group Charitable Giving Committee for almost three years. Our group of six meet almost weekly to review requests sent to Cheney Insurance, Newcastle Square Realty, and Newcastle Square Vacation Rentals. We then make recommendations based on how each request aligns with the CCFG Giving Philosophy.
This past year was as busy as always, and we granted over three dozen requests amounting to more than $12,000 in donations. Serving on our Charitable Giving Committee is an interesting experience, and we take each request and the recommendations we make very seriously. The members of the CCFG Charitable Giving Committee do rotate on and off periodically, but our philosophy and our mission remain unchanged.
